Metal cutting discs are widely used in metal fabrication, construction, engineering workshops, and industrial maintenance.

Choosing the correct cutting disc can help operators achieve the required cutting performance while maintaining compatibility with their equipment and material.

Hard Metal Traders provides industrial tools and abrasive product options for customers in Pakistan, including cutting and grinding products from brands such as Flexovit and Oasis.

Flexovit Cutting and Grinding Products

Metal Cutting Discs

Cutting discs are used for cutting metal components, steel sections, pipes, and other compatible materials.

Before purchasing, customers should check the disc diameter, thickness, bore size, maximum operating speed, and material compatibility.

Grinding Discs

Grinding discs are used for grinding, surface preparation, and material removal in metalworking and fabrication.

The appropriate product depends on the workpiece material, grinding operation, machine, and required finish.

Abrasive Products for Workshops

Abrasive products are important in industrial maintenance and fabrication environments where cutting, grinding, and surface preparation are regular activities.

Selecting products according to the manufacturer's specifications and operating instructions is essential for safe use.

Safety first. Never fit a disc whose maximum operating speed is lower than the rated speed of your machine, and never force a cutting disc into a grinding job it was not made for. Check the disc diameter, thickness, bore size and rated RPM against the tool before every fitting, and follow the manufacturer's guarding and PPE instructions.

How to Read a Disc Label Before You Fit It

Every bonded abrasive disc carries the information you need to decide whether it is safe and suitable. Reading it takes a few seconds and prevents the most serious accidents in a fabrication shop.

MarkingWhat it tells youWhy it matters
Dimensions, for example 125 x 3.0 x 22.23 mmDiameter, thickness and bore sizeThe bore must match the machine spindle, and the diameter must not exceed what the guard is rated for
Maximum operating speed, in RPM and m/sThe fastest the disc may be runThis must be equal to or higher than your machine's no-load speed, never lower
Material marking, for example steel, stainless or stoneThe material family the disc is formulated forA disc for stone in steel, or an iron-bearing disc in stainless, produces poor results and can contaminate the work
Expiry dateThe end of the rated shelf life for the bondResin bonds degrade with age and humidity; an expired disc is more likely to fracture
Safety pictograms and standard markRequired PPE and the standard the disc is certified againstConfirms the disc has been tested to a recognised standard

Why You Cannot Grind With a Cutting Disc

This is worth stating plainly because it causes real injuries. A thin cutting disc, typically around 1 to 3 mm, is engineered for load applied to its edge only. A grinding disc, typically 6 mm or more with a depressed centre, is built to take load on its face.

Putting side load on a cutting disc by tilting it to dress an edge stresses it in the one direction it was never designed for. The disc can shatter, and at operating speed the fragments carry considerable energy. Keep both types on the shelf and change the disc rather than improvising with the one already fitted.

The same logic applies in reverse: a thick grinding disc will cut slowly, overheat the workpiece and waste the disc.

Storage, Handling and Shelf Life

  • Store discs flat or in their original packaging, in a dry place away from temperature swings. Humidity attacks resin bonds, which matters through a Pakistani monsoon.
  • Never use a disc that has been dropped, even if it looks undamaged. Internal cracks are not visible.
  • Rotate stock so older discs are used first, and check expiry dates during stocktaking rather than at the point of use.
  • Keep the guard fitted and correctly positioned, and allow a new disc to run free for around thirty seconds before applying it to work.
  • Match the disc to one operator habit you cannot control: if discs are being forced, the answer is usually a more suitable grade rather than a harder disc.

How Many Discs Should You Hold?

Abrasives are the one consumable that reliably runs out mid-job. Most fabrication shops work out a sensible holding by tracking discs consumed per week over a month, then holding enough to cover their re-order lead time plus a margin for an unusually heavy week.

If you would rather not manage that yourself, talk to us about scheduled supply. Our solutions page covers volume and contract arrangements.
